Age Group Nationals: Good Luck!

I’ll resume my Athlete Series posts next week, but for now I wanted to take a moment to talk about Age Group Nationals. I also wanted to recognize a couple of my athletes that are racing their this upcoming weekend. While I had several qualify this year, these two took their spots for the first time!

What is Age Group Nationals?

Age Group Nationals is USA Triathlon’s (USAT) premier event. In order to compete at this race, athletes must qualify by competing in a USAT sanctioned triathlon. Not only that, but they must place in the top 2 OR top 15% in their age group (whichever is greater) to get a qualification. Once qualified, athletes will receive an email with a special sign up link for this event.

Each year, different cities will bid to host this event, and this year the race takes place in Milwaukee, WI. Two of my athletes decided to claim their spots this year, and are heading up there today!

Why Race Age Group Nationals?

I think every athlete, if they get the qualification, should race at least once at AG Nationals. Not only is this race a more prestigious event, but it’s a reward of the hard work that athletes have put into the sport. They get the chance to race against the best competition from all over the country in their respective age groups as well as experience a first class event.

Good Luck

I want to take a moment now and wish my athletes good luck! Racing at Age Group Nationals for the first time, we have Jared Howell and Kelly Dow.

Kelly needs no introduction! If you’ve been following along then you know he is in preparation for IM California. I’m so proud of him for earning his AG Nats spot.

Jared Howell is racing for the first time, and is flying in from South Florida! In the sport for just over two years, this guy has also been dedicated and hard-working in order to earn this spot.

Follow along as I’ll try to post updates on my Instagram account of how these two are doing!

Good Luck Guys - the crew is cheering for you!
